Paddle Out: Friends Say Goodbye To Anderson Estep
The 19-year-old disappeared while surfing last week in North Myrtle Beach.
Friends and family of Anderson Estep gathered Thursday night at a pier in North Myrtle Beach to say goodbye to the 19-year-old.
Estep, a Lexington native, disappeared last week while surfing near the Cherry Grove Pier in waves brought to shore by Tropical Storm Andrea.
The hundreds who gathered to honor him Thursday started the memorial with a prayer, according to WMBF in Myrtle Beach. Fellow surfers then paddled out in the ocean on their boards in honor of their friend

"To me, it just means, just this one last time…being with him, his spirit out there," friend Jeff Berlin told WMBF. "It's hard. But, I know he's smiling down on us."

A memorial service for Estep was also held Wednesday at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church.
Estep and his family recently moved to the Myrtle Beach area, according to his obituary. But Estep grew up in Lexington One schools and attended White Knoll High before he transferred, according to district officials.
