Report: Changes Coming to Corley Mill Road, US 378 Intersection

The changes are meant to help ease traffic in the area near I-20 and the new River Bluff High.

Changes coming to the intersection near U.S. 378 and Corley Mill Road will be a partial fix for congestion in the area, according to a report.

Part of the plan — widening a section of U.S. 378 to three lanes and adjusting traffic signals — is in place, according to a report from The State. But a second part of the plan — adding a traffic circle and and a wider side road a few blocks west of the intersection — is uncertain.

County Council Chairman Bill Banning told The State that the second part of the plan may never happen.

Officials expect traffic congestion to worsen in the area when the new River Bluff High School on Corley Mill Road opens in August

The intersection is already one of the busiest in the state, with more than 30,000 cars traveling through it each day, according to state traffic counts.

Lexington One officials considered implementing staggering start times for the new high school but have opted for an 8:15 a.m. start time and a 3:45 p.m. dismissal, according to The State.
