A former Lexington County Sheriff's deputy is preparing to run against Sheriff James Metts in 2016, according to a report from The State.
Jim Crawford, who now works at the Columbia Police Department, bought the Internet domain name www.crawford4sheriff.com, according to The State. Filing for the race doesn't open until spring 2016, but Crawford told The State he's gearing up now.

Metts started his 41st year as sheriff in January. He's the longest-serving sheriff in South Carolina who is still in office.
