West Columbia Man Dies in Moped Wreck
The crash happened Tuesday morning on Glenn Street in West Columbia.
A West Columbia man died Tuesday morning after his moped crashed into a utility pole, according to the Lexington County Coroner's Office.
Gilberto Fontanez, 56, was driving his moped around 11:50 a.m. when he lost control and hit a utility pole at 940 Glenn Street, which is off of Platt Springs Road in West Columbia, according to the coroner's office.
Fontanez was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the West Columbia Police Department are investigating the crash.
