West Columbia Police to Increase River Patrols on Labor Day Weekend

Police will be patrolling the river for underage drinking, over-consumption and littering this Labor Day weekend.

The West Columbia Police Department will be conducting increased river patrols
for underage drinking this Labor Day weekend thanks to funding from LRADAC and the S.C. Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services.

Officers will patrol the river during different hours to ensure everyone is being safe and having a good time. They will be looking for underage alcohol consumption, over-consumption and littering.

"The amount of people using the river is increasing, and safety is our number one concern," according to a press release from the police department. "Broken beer bottles don’t mix with bare feet, and irresponsible drinking doesn’t mix with a fast-moving river."
