About 200 people in the Greenville area fell into unemployment in August, according to S.C. Department of Employment Workforce.
The newly jobless are joining the roughly 22,000 actively seeking work.

The Greenville area's unemployment rate is at 7.1 percent, below the national average of 7.3 percent. In addition to a .1 percent decrease in employment in August, the Greenville area also saw a .2 percent increase in unemployment in August as more people enter the workforce.
Since August 2012, the Greenville area has seen an increase of 5,300 jobs, equating to a 1.7 percent increase in employment.

In August, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.1 percent.
