Greenville County Jobless Rate Continues to Fall

Unemployment was at 6.6 percent in July.

While the state's jobless rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point in July, Greenville County's rate continued to fall, according to statistics from the state Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW).

The county's unemployment rate in July fell to 6.6 percent in July, compared to 7.1 percent in June, and 7.7 percent in July 2012.

Meanwhile, the state's unemployment rate slightly in July to 8.1 percent from 8 percent in June — but was more than a percentage point less than the 9.2 percent recorded in July 2012.

Greenville County's rate was the fourth lowest in the state, behind Charleston (6.5 percent), Saluda (6.5 percent), and Lexington (6.2 percent) counties, respectively.

Nationally, the unemployment rate declined to 7.4 percent from June's estimate of 7.6 percent.
