Peacock Strides for Babies 5K Set For Saturday Morning
SIDS benefit race and festivities kick off at 8:30 a.m. at Mauldin Cultural Center.

The Peacock Strides for Babies 1-mile Family Fun Run and 5K will commence Saturday morning at 8:30 at the Mauldin Cultural Center.
Hundreds of racers of all ages and skill levels are expected to participate in the fourth annual event. The race proceeds will benefit the New Jersey-based CJ Foundation, a national non-profit devoted to eliminating the tragedy of sudden unexpected infant deaths and early childhood deaths, supporting grieving families, advancing medical research, furthering parent and professional education, and advocating for the health and survival of all children.
For those who haven't already signed up, registration for the races start at 7 a.m.. Spectators can come out to support the racers for free and partake in race festivities, which include a silent auction and a kids' fun zone.
Drivers in the area around the Cultural Center on East Butler should expect some traffic delays and plan their travel accordingly.
The race is named in honor of the late Emily "Peacock" Ware, the 5-month-old daughter of Jodi and Matthew Ware of Mauldin who passed away from SIDS in 2009. The Wares created the event to raise awareness and money for SIDS research and prevention.
"Her red hair was always waving in the wind, earning her the nickname "Emily Peacock," according to her parents.
