Watch: Coast Guard Helicopter Crew Rescues 8 Boaters Near Capers Island
Coast Guard watchstanders in Charleston were alerted that a boat had become grounded on a sandbar near Capers Island early Saturday.
CAPERS ISLAND, SC — Eight boaters became stuck on a sandbar near Capers Island early Saturday morning and had to be rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew, officials said.
Coast Guard watchstanders in Charleston were alerted at 2:40 a.m. that a boat had become grounded, officials said in a release. An MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew arrived at the scene about an hour later. and hoisted four of the boaters out of the 21-foot recreational boat. They were taken to Mount Pleasant Regional Airport.
The helicopter later returned and hoisted out the four remaining boaters. All were reported to be in good condition, the Coast Guard said. The vessel was being salvaged Saturday, officials said. There were no signs of pollution.
