Five Road Projects Nearing Completion

Town is rushing to complete several road projects before summer's end.

Town leaders got an update Monday on several road projects currently underway in Mount Pleasant. Here's what to expect:

1. Mathis Ferry Widening

The town is in the final stages of adding two feet of asphalt to either side of Mathis Ferry Road between Wingo Way and Bowman Road. The widening will allow for bicyclists to better navigate the road, though the increased space is not officially a bike lane.

2. Mathis Ferry Roundabout

The roundabout at Mathis Ferry Road opened last week, but crews are continuing nighttime work on the roundabout.

3. Walt Miller Road

Contractors working on behalf of River's Walk Apartments ran into delays last week as they began resurfacing Walt Miller Road between Mathis Ferry Road and Johnnie Dodds Blvd. Water damage to the road's substrate has delayed the project, but it should be complete by the end of August.

4. Long Point Road Roundabout

Crews are behind on construction of a roundabout at Long Point Road. Town leaders had hoped to have the roundabout completed when schools re-opened. They still think the road will be mostly complete by mid-August, but there still may be some flagging operations and curb, gutter and landscaping work ongoing.

5. U.S. Hwy. 17 Landscaping

Work on U.S. Hwy. 17 north of the Isle of Palms Connector is moving at a slowed pace, but finishing details, such as landscaping and irrigation is moving more slowly here than in other parts of the Hwy. 17 overhaul.
