Forum Tonight on Shem Creek Park Expansion

Town plans to replace and expand Shem Creek boardwalk.

Town leaders will take public input tonight on plans for a $1.6 million expansion to Shem Creek Park.

The drop-in forum is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Town Hall off Houston Northcutt Blvd. Town planners will answer questions, allow inspection of the plans and take feedback from residents.

The town opened Shem Creek Park in 2011. Now they hope to connect the existing network of boardwalks with existing privately owned docks between several waterfront restaurants and the creek.

Town planners say the project will replace docks along the creek that are unsafe and unsightly. The work also will provide a loop for pedestrians from the park's current terminus to Coleman Blvd.

If approved by the council in June, the project moves to a permitting phase that could take six to eight months.
