Local Events This Week for National Bike Month

Charleston Moves plans rides this week to promote cycling.

Charleston Moves is planning several events this week to note National Bike Month. Here's how you can get involved...

WEDNESDAY
Ride of Silence:
This short, police-escorted silent ride around the peninsula is a global event to honor cyclists who have died on the road. Cyclists will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the north parking lot area of Hampton Park and will begin the ride promptly at 7 p.m. Refreshments will follow the ride at Granville's, on the corner or Rutledge Ave. and Grove St. Bring your helmets!

FRIDAY
Bike to Work Day: People all across the country will be biking to work this day and CHS Moves encourage residents to find a safe route to do the same - this day and every day. Want to join a group ride? CHS Moves will have stations set up in West Ashley and Mount Pleasant, with food and beverages provided by Earth Fare and Whole Foods:

  • Mount Pleasant: Meet at Waterfront Park between 7 and 7:30 a.m. for a short rally, refreshments and enter a bike raffle. The group will then ride to work over the Ravenel Bridge or work locations in Mount Pleasant. All those who cross the Ravenel are invited to stop by the MUSC Clyburn Center plaza.
