Second Robbery Suspect in Custody

Markel Wright faces attempted murder, robbery and weapons charges.

The second suspect in a Wednesday evening armed robbery is in police custody, according to jail records.

Markel Wright, 23, was booked into the Charleston County Jail just after 12:30 a.m. this morning, according to the sheriff's online records. 

Wright had been the subject of a manhunt since the Wednesday hold-up. His alleged accomplice, Deion Watson, 18, was held at the scene of the robbery by a passerby armed with a gun, but Wright fled the scene.

Watson faces two counts of armed robbery, according to records. Wright faces two counts of armed robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon in commission of a crime and one count of attempted murder.

The Wednesday robbery was the fourth Mount Pleasant robbery in less than a month, police said. The Wednesday robbery occurred at the Kangaroo gas station at the entrance to Park West. Two previous robberies occurred at the Kangaroo Express at Highways 17 and 41.
