Mount Pleasant Towne Centre on Saturday officially opened the holiday shopping season when it illuminated its Christmas tree and holiday lights.

The event featured a laser light show and a performance by the East Cooper Baptist Church Choir.

Mount Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails was in attendance as a throng of spectators watched the large tree, erected in front of the Belk department store, was turned on for the first time this year.
