Lake View Man Killed By Deputy, Circumstances Unclear

The man was identified as James Gerald Davis, 40, of Lake View, officials said. Authorities say the deputy involved wasn't hurt.

LAKE VIEW, SC — State police say a sheriff's deputy shot a man to death in rural Lake View, South Carolina and now they're trying to figure out what happened.

The man was James Gerald Davis, 40, of Lake View, Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley said Wednesday evening. His body was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy. (For more local news, click here to sign up for real-time news alerts. Sheriff's Capt. Cliff Arnette said the deputy involved was not hurt. The officer's name hasn't been released. Arnette didn't release details of what led to the shooting.

Lake View is about 130 miles northeast of Charleston.

Investigators and crime scene specialists were near the South Carolina-North Carolina state line Wednesday afternoon, a State Law Enforcement Division spokeswoman said.
