Greetings, Grand Strand! Today is Wednesday, June 23, 2021 . Today I'll tell you about the failed effort to reinstate licensing of the former Donny's Saloon, a car chase and shootout that began after an argument about a parking space, MYR recommends showing up early, a list of official 4th of July fireworks displays, and Horry County Schools releases its return plan for academic year 2021-2022.

  1. A Myrtle Beach business owner of the bar once known as Donny's Saloon, then known as The Location, failed to get her license back after the venue on 3rd Avenue was marred by an April shooting that killed Jas'sier Wilson, 26, of Surfside Beach. Owner Daniella Digiorgi, whose license was permanently revoked, took her case before the City Council but was denied renewal of the license. Digiorgi is allowed to apply to open another business in the city. (WPDE)
  2. Two people were arrested and charged with attempted murder after "a heated argument" over a parking space at Dollar General in Little River. One defendant is a juvenile, who allegedly chased the victim with a vehicle while the other defendant fired a shot into the victim's truck. The two defendants informed the victim that they had guns and were going to shoot him, according to the warrants. (WMBF)
  3. Representatives at Myrtle Beach International Airport have put out a reminder for travelers to arrive at the airport earlier than usual because of long wait times due to record-setting passenger numbers this summer. Weekend days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) are particularly busy, with Mondays seeing far fewer passengers. It's recommended that travelers arrive at least two hours ahead of their scheduled departure.   4. The City of Myrtle Beach has released a list of professional fireworks displays that will take place throughout the Grand Strand area during the July 4th holiday weekend. At least one display, at Broadway at the Beach, will happen on July 6th. The Murrells Inlet Marshwalk fireworks display will return after being cancelled last year, at 10 p.m. on the 4th. (WMBF)
  5. Horry County Schools has passed its plan for resumption of classes in the fall. Plexiglass barriers between desks will be removed, there will be limits placed on visitors, there will be screening for COVID-19 for those who want it, and large gatherings are suggested to be held virtually instead of in person. The plan also included provisions for students to catch up after learning loss due to the pandemic. (WPDE)
