South Carolina Mom, Boyfriend Charged In Baby's Death

The remains of 9-month-old Aaliyana McCoy were found Saturday, Horry County officials said​. The baby likely died in July.

SOCASTEE, SC — The remains of a baby missing since July were discovered in the Socastee area over the weekend and now a South Carolina couple is charged in the baby's death.

The remains of 9-month-old Aaliyana McCoy were found Saturday, Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler told local media outlets. Fowler said the girl probably died around July 15.

Her body was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to determine an exact cause of death. Myrtle Beach police began investigating last week after learning the baby had been missing since July. Aaliyana's mother, Ladasha Harriett, 19, was charged with murder/homicide by child abuse, aiding and abetting. Harriett's boyfriend, Daquan Jamal Simmons, 22, was charged with murder/homicide by child abuse, police said.

It was not known if they have attorneys yet.
