Greetings, Grand Strand! Today is Friday, June 18, 2021. In today's news, I'll tell you about a child found running alone in a local parking lot, two new programs for COVID-19 long-haulers, Larry Bragg passed away, the City of North Myrtle Beach was brought to Federal court, and horticulturists at Brookgreen Gardens give some assistance to the bee population.

  1. A 3-year-old child was discovered wandering alone in a Myrtle Beach parking lot while a woman was unconscious in a car nearby. The woman was charged with unlawful neglect of a child, and is being held on $10,000 bond. It was alleged that the woman was experiencing a narcotics overdose at the time. (WBTW)
  2. Tidelands Health is offering an ongoing care program for "long-hauler" COVID-19 survivors who continue to have lingering symptoms long after being infected. Symptoms can include fatigue, joint pain, cough, anxiety and can interfere with daily living activities and work. The organization is also offering a new rehab program to COVID-19 survivors. (WPDE)
  3. The City of Myrtle Beach has announced that the chairman of the Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board, and former VP of the MB Area Chamber of Commerce, Larry Bragg, has died. Bragg had been dealing with a lengthy illness. He had a long career in the development and progress of Myrtle Beach for over 40 years. (WMBF)
  4. Three lawsuits alleging employee discrimination against the City of North Myrtle Beach have been sent to Federal court. The lawsuits were removed from Horry County courts to U.S. District Court in Florence this week. The cases cite Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as well as the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. (WMBF)
  5. Brookgreen Gardens adds three acres of wildflowers at its arboretum in an effort to help the bee population. A photo gallery titled, "Wild Bees", will be viewable alongside the arboretum. The effort is aimed at educating people about taking care of pollinator species. Brookgreen's VP of Horticulture, Katherine Rowe, says the project is more important than ever due to the construction boom in the Grand Strand area. (WPDE)
