11 Dead Dogs Found Along South Carolina Roads; Some Were Shot

"Occasionally you see a shot dog," an animal control supervisor said. But hardly ever that many that close in proximity to each other.

GRAY COURT, SC — Authorities found 11 dead dogs scattered on and around several roads in Laurens County, some of which had been shot. County Animal Control Officers notified deputies of the grisly discovery in Grays Court around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A deputy spoke with two animal control officers at the intersection of Stoddard Mill Road and Ben Taylor Road and found four dead dogs in a ditch. Five more dead dogs were found on Bryson Ford Road and two more were found dead on Sweetbriar Road, authorities said in a release.

A preliminary investigation revealed that some of the dogs had been shot. An investigation remains ongoing.

Giles Gilmer, animal control supervisor for the county, told WFMY-TV that all of the dogs were chihuahuas and all appeared to have been shot.

"Occasionally you see a shot dog," he told the station, but you hardly ever see that many that close in proximity to each other.
