Ambitious Plan Proposed for Simpsonville City Park

Park on East Curtis Street would look very different if wish list comes to fruition.

Simpsonville City Park now has new playground equipment, but city officials say that's only the beginning.

A preliminary master plan for the venerable downtown park would add a dog park, a "splash pad", beach volleyball courts, and a pavilion for the farmer's market, among other amenities, according to a Greenville News report.

“It’s just a little jewel there that just needs to be polished,” City Council member Matthew Gooch told the paper. “I think it’s time.”

The plans are big and funding remains an issue, but the dog park could become a reality before the end of the year, Council member Geneva Lawrence told the paper. She said she has been trying to nail down private funding to cover the estimated $20,000 cost of that aspect of the park plan.

The ambitious plan, created by Gooch with city staff's help, is a means to get the city and its residents thinking about the future of the site.

“You ask for the stars and maybe you get the moon,” Gooch told the paper. “We put everything in there we could think of.”
