UPDATE: Motorcyclist Killed in Simpsonville Chase, Wreck Identified
Rider involved in chase with Fountain Inn Police before crashing into the rear of a SUV.

Update: The motorcyclist killed Thursday in a crash while being chased by Fountain Inn police has been identified by the coroner's office as 21-year-old Zachary R. Shaver, of Jones Mill Road in Fountain Inn.Â
The Highway Patrol has not released further details about the wreck or chase.
Shaver, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene after striking the rear of a 2004 Mercury SUV. The driver of the SUV, a 31-year-old woman from Simpsonville, was unhurt.

Fountain Inn Police Chief Keith Morton said an officer was chasing Shaver on a 2005 Yamaha for an alleged traffic violation and reckless driving, Greenville News reported.
Morton said the department would be reviewing a videotape of the chase and crash, but won't release the tape until an investigation is complete. Morton also said he didn't know the motorcyclist's speed at the time of the crash.

Original story: A motorcyclist died early Thursday morning in Simpsonville after reportedly crashing into a vehicle while being chased by Fountain Inn Police.
The crash occurred on Howard Drive shortly after midnight, according to the state Highway Patrol.
The driver of the motorcycle reportedly collided with a SUV after leading police on a chase. Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis told Fox Carolina an autopsy would be performed Thursday morning. The victim's name has not yet been disclosed.
The driver of the SUV was not injured, according to the report.
Meantime, Howard Drive, which runs behind Heritage Park, was closed Thursday morning while authorities investigated, Fox said.
