Simpsonville Student Inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford

Jonathan Kyle Foster one of 35 inducted into prestigious honor society.

Jonathan Kyle Foster of Simpsonville was given Wofford College's highest academic honor recently when he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Foster, the son of Jim and Tracy Cato of Simpsonville, is majoring in mathematics with concentrations in pure mathematics and secondary education. 

Foster has demonstrated his mathematical abilities through his research on the "Congruence ABC Conjecture" and as a member of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society. He received the Recognition of Excellence on the PRAXIS II Math Content Exam for teachers, the AFCEA STEM Teacher Scholarship, and the South Carolina Space Grant Consortium STEM Scholarship. 

As an Arthur Vining Davis High Impact Fellow, he created teaching materials incorporating financial mathematics into a high school Algebra 2 class. Foster also has contributed to the Wofford community as co-president of Spectrum.

Foster plans to teach mathematics at James Byrnes High School in Spartanburg.

Thirty-five Wofford College students and recent graduates were initiated as members-in-course during the ceremony that marked the 72nd anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.
