Dorchester County: One of Nation's Fastest-Growing

Dorchester County is one of the country's 100 fastest growing counties.

That's according to U.S. Census figures released Thursday that show the county grew an estimated 4.4 percent from 2010 to 2012 — that's the 97th fastest among all U.S. counties.

Dorchester County added nearly 6,000 residents from April 1, 2010, to July 1, 2012, according the Census. That gives the county 142,496 residents.

Dorchester wasn't alone. Berkeley was the country's 35th-fastest-growing with 6.7 percent growth.

The Charleston three-county metropolitan area grew at 4.9 percent — the 12th-best among the country's metros.
