Douglas R. Penland, 22, of Summerville, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at his residence.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville. His funeral service will be held Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 3:00 at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel in Summerville. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens in Summerville. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Francis Willis SPCA, 136 Four Paw Lane, Summerville, SC 29483.

Douglas was born December 19, 1989 in Charleston, son of Herman and Donna Penland of Summerville. He was a graduate of Easley High School where he was a three year letterman on the varsity football team. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and sports. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was a Correctional Officer with MacDougall Correctional Institute.

Surviving in addition to his parents are: one brother, Bryan Penland, sister-in-law, Sara Penland, of Atlanta, Georiga, two aunts: Alice Kingsbury and Angela Fox, One Cousin: John Douglas Kingsbury, III (Mimi), and aunts, uncles, and cousins all residing in England, and his beloved dogs: Duke and Durham.
