Summersville Town Council Appoints Douglas Wright As Next Chief Of Police

Summerville Town Council has voted to appoint Douglas (Doug) Wright to serve as the next Chief of Police. The vote was made at a regularly scheduled monthly council meeting on Thursday, March 11, 2021. Wright will start his new duties on Friday, April 16, following Chief Jon Rogers’ retirement.

Wright currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Police. He started his law enforcement career in 1995 and joined the Summerville Police Department in 1997. He served in various responsibilities within the department including:

• K-9 Handler
• Traffic Enforcement Team
• Traffic Fatality Investigation Team
• Emergency Services Unit
• Dorchester/Charleston/Summerville Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team
• Honor Guard Commander
• Patrol Team Supervisor
• Patrol Team Watch Commander
• Uniform Patrol Division Commander

Chief Wright proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves for six years. He graduated with honors from Columbia College and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, as well as an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Trident Technical College. He is pursuing his master’s degree in executive leadership at Liberty University.

As Chief of Police, Wright will oversee all officers within the Police Department and Communications (dispatch) Department, be responsible for continuing the town’s high quality level of policing services, continue to grow successful public safety outreach programs, and provide his law enforcement expertise to Town Council and staff. He’ll earn an annual salary of $110,775.
