Summerville's John McKissick Wins No. 600 at the Swamp

Winningest coach in high school football Summerville Coach John McKissick wins 600th game over Ashley Ridge, 37-21.

John McKissick has done what no other coach in football history has done: Win 600 games.

Friday he clinched No. 600 as his Summerville Green Wave crushed neighboring Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes 37-21 at the Swamp.

For more than a decade, McKissick has held the title of winningest coach in any division of football (high school, college or pro). He has been the head coach of the Green Wave for 61 years.

At the end of the game, McKissick players hoisted him on their shoulders. He had few words for the victory.

"It feels great. I feel good for the kids," he said. 

Green Wave took the lead early in the game and kept it, even as Ashley Ridge tried to close the gap after the half. But by the third quarter, Summerville widened its lead to 31-14. With seconds left in the game, Green Wave scored a field goal.
