Utility Pole Comes Down, Wire Hits Passing Vehicle on Dorchester Road

Thousands without power briefly Thursday morning.

Power went out for thousands near Bacons Bridge Road and Dorchester Road Thrusday morning after a utility pole fell over and one of its wires struck a passing vehicle, according to SCE&G spokeswoman Kim Asbill.

S.C. Highway Patrol confirmed the incident and said burn marks were present on the truck, but no injuries were reported.

According to Asbill, a third party contractor was moving the pole when the construction equipment struck a guy wire, causing the utility pole to fall.

Power was out from 7:32 a.m. until 8:04 a.m.

Edited 3:45 p.m. Aug. 22 to correct term "guy wire."
