9Round Packing A Punch In Taylors

Circuit training gym continues to attract new clients with frenetic pace, fluid schedule.

Vince Seabrook spent Thursday afternoon doing what he often does in the dimly lit confines of his gym.

Picking his way through his clients one at a time, he demonstrates to each the proper technique for their respective exercises.

It's the kind of one-on-one attention Seabrook and his business partner, James Trammell, believe have contributed to the 9Round brand's wild popularity.

9Round, an intense boxing and kickboxing circuit training gym, was started on Butler Road in Mauldin, and features a variety of exercises incorporating free weights, bag work and calisthenics. It was at the headquarters on Butler where Seabrook and Trammell, both employees there, began to discuss opening their own location.

Seabrook, a New York native, is an avid boxer and kickboxer, and said the idea to expand the brand was always on his mind.

"We both worked at the original on Pelham, and we'd been thinking about it for a while. It had always been in the back of our heads," Seabrook said.

The two followed through in December of 2011, opening up a 9Round of their own at 2728 Wade Hampton Boulevard near the intersection of East Lee Road, and customers have been steadily walking through their doors ever since.

"It's been going well since we opened," Seabrook said. "It's a pretty unique workout."

Every three minutes, clients are made to try a different circuit station, and are given the instruction that may otherwise cost hundreds of dollars if received through a traditional personal trainer.

"We have a lot of people who come here on the way to pick up their kids, and they don't have much time to work out. They only have 30 minutes," Seabrook said with a smile. "They'll walk in with their hands already wrapped."

The workouts, which Seabrook said tests your body from head to toe, are great for shedding unwanted pounds and building lean muscle.

"I think it's (so popular) because in this workout, you'll work every muscle in your body, and you'll basically get a personal trainer without any extra cost," Seabrook said. "And it's fun because there are nine stations, so you're doing something different."

The 9Round in Taylors costs $39 per month. The business can be reached at (864) 244-0190.
