Belk Haywood Employees Give Back to Welcome Elementary

Submitted by Greenville County Schools

Welcome Elementary School recently received a makeover courtesy of local Belk employees.

As part of the company's project, 125 Days of Service, the Belk Haywood store enlisted staff volunteers to do makeovers in local schools over a 125 day period.

Welcome Elementary was chosen based on its 96 percent poverty rate.

The makeover included constructing and staining a picnic table, creating educational wall hangings, assembling bookshelves, landscape-mulch, and grass cutting, sorting supplies, and stuffing student bags.  The store also held a bake sale and auction, hosted by associates who personally baked items and contributed to the auction, which raised more than $1,200 for the school.
