BI-LO Charities Endows Scholarship at Greenville Tech

Students enrolled in any career-oriented program of study at the college, including those offered by Greenville Tech's Corporate and Career Development Division, will be eligible to apply for scholarship

The Greenville Tech Foundation received a $100,000 gift last week from BI-LO, which will create an endowed scholarship fund. Greenville Technical College students coming from a four-state area will be eligible, with the award to be used for any course of study that serves as career preparation.

The presentation was made Friday at the BI-LO Verdae store.

Students enrolled in any career-oriented program of study at the college, including those offered by Greenville Tech’s Corporate and Career Development Division, will be eligible to apply. The scholarship will be open to residents of South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia, all markets where BI-LO operates supermarkets.

The gift is funded from the organization’s annual golf tournament, the BI-LO Charity Classic, which raised over $5.1 million in 2012 and has raised over $63 million in the past 29 years.

“We deeply appreciate this generous gift, which will make a college education possible for a substantial number of people,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “BI-LO’s interest in bettering the community is clearly demonstrated by the charity’s support of education. We are very fortunate that we can count them as a partner in the effort to improve our area’s job skills and drive economic development.”
