Blue Ridge Coach Charged With Shoplifting

The Fighting Tigers Baseball Coach was attempting to shoplift baseball equipment from Dorman Centre Walmart, according to Spartanburg police.

A Blue Ridge High School coach is in trouble after authorities say he attempted to shoplift sporting goods from an Upstate Walmart.

Travis Henson 38, of 435 S. Glassy Mountain Road, Greer, was arrested Monday morning at Dorman Centre Walmart in Spartanburg.

According to an incident report, Henson selected two bats and a baseball glove and then went to another area of the store and concealed them in a Walmart bag. Henson then reportedly exited the store without paying for the items.

The report said Henson returned inside the store a few minutes later and was placing the items back on the shelves, when he was approached by the store's loss prevention officer.

Henson has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into criminal charges, according to a statement released by Greenville County Schools.

Henson has been employed at Blue Ridge High since January 2012 and serves as both the head baseball coach and an assistant football coach. He also teaches Social Studies.

Henson coached three teams to a state championship while serving as the head baseball coach at Landrum High School in Spartanburg County. He also was honored by the General Assembly June 3, 2010, while coaching at North Greenville University, for achievement in community leadership.
