Body Found at Old Victor Mill Friday

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said that investigators from their Violent Crimes Unit and Forensics Unit are out at the site.

A body was found Friday afternoon at the site of the old Victor Mill.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said that investigators from their Violent Crimes Unit and Forensics Unit are out at the site after an individual out walking their dog came across a deceased male.

The body was found between 15th and 17th streets, just behind Veteran's Park.

Tammy Black lives in the neighborhood where the body was discovered. While Black loves to watch the TV show "Criminal Minds," she never expected to come home from the grocery store to find sheriff's deputies vehicles and crime scene tape blocking her road home.

Black watched investigators work from the backyard of a friend’s home. She said her friends were alerted to the body by a man who had been walking his dog in the area. He told the neighbors that he first saw a foot and then the body.

“To know that something like this could happen right in your yard is kind of disturbing and alarming, you know,” Black said.

Black said her neighbor was just at the park Thursday. Black said it's a fairly quiet neighborhood. She said a friend who lives nearby had noticed an odor in the area the past few days, but never thought it would be a body. Black said she was told the body was very decomposed.

Deputies have not been able to release any other details at this time.
