Clean Out Your Junk, But Dispose of It Properly

The City of Greer will offer Amnesty Day on Saturday at the city's Recycling Center.

Doing a little spring cleaning?

You're not alone.

As you start to clean out that garage, you may run across old paint cans, pesticides, old computers and such. Even the medicine cabinet needs a good cleaning, with old prescriptions and medications that need to be destroyed.

All of these things need to be disposed of properly and the City of Greer is going to help.

On Saturday, the city is again sponsoring Amnesty Day, which will allow residents to throw that junk in the trunk of their cars and take it to the Greer Recycling Center where it will be disposed of properly and without any charge.

The event will include shredding of personal papers and the collection of expired and unneeded prescription drugs.

Items will be accepted from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Recycling Center located at 315 Buncombe St.

The city will once again partner with Ace Environmental, Inc. to collect and dispose of the unwanted items.

In addition to electronics, the city will accept appliances, lawnmowers, paint and paint thinner, herbicides, and insecticides. Liquids in proper containers will be accepted as long as the contents are clearly identified on the container. Brush and yard debris should not be brought to Amnesty Day, as they are collected curbside.

Residents may also take advantage of a shredder to dispose of personal papers, however, each resident may only bring three medium-size boxes of documents.
