Clemson, Carolina Win To Set Up Monster Matchup

Clemson cemented a 10-win season, while South Carolina moved to just one win away from the mark going into the rivalry game.

It wasn't exactly easy for Clemson or South Carolina on Saturday, as both schools were tested in their respective games leading up to the annual rivalry game between the Tigers and the Gamecocks.

In two games that couldn't have been more different, Clemson defeated N.C. State and South Carolina pulled away late over Wofford on Saturday. Clemson hit the 10-win mark by defeating the Wolfpack 62-48 on the back of Tajh Boyd, who threw for 426 passing yards and five throwing touchdowns, while running for 105 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Clemson finished the day with 754 yards of total offense.

It wasn't all fun and games for the Tigers, though. N.C. State quarterback Mike Glennon had a field day against the Clemson defense, throwing for 493 yards and five touchdowns.

Meanwhile, South Carolina struggled with a scrappy Wofford squad, pulling away late to move within one game of yet another 10-win season themselves. The Gamecocks were outgained by Wofford, 330 yards to 293, and found themselves in a 7-7 stalemate heading into the fourth quarter.

But after scoring 17 unanswered points, the Gamecocks moved to 9-2 with a 24-7 win. The Gamecocks were led by running back Kenny Miles, who ran for 127 yards and scored a touchdown.

The Gamecocks and Tigers will play each other Nov. 24 at Clemson, in a game with BCS Bowl implications. If Clemson wins, they'd pull off an 11-win regular season and would stand a solid chance for an at-large birth in the Sugar Bowl or Fiesta Bowl. A Gamecock win would also help the Gamecocks, currently ranked No. 8 in the BCS rankings, improve their bowl chances.
