Fallen Greer Soldier To Be Laid To Rest Today

Channing "Bo" Hicks will be honored, buried Wednesday afternoon.

The funeral of a soldier who hailed from Greer will be held Wednesday afternoon. 

Sgt. Channing Hicks, 24, of Greer, was killed in action along with Spc. Joseph A. Richardson, 23, of Booneville, Ark. on Nov. 16. The two men died from injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit in Paktika province with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.

His body arrived back in Greer on Monday, and was greeted by thousands of grateful citizens.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Fairview Baptist Church in Greer, with burial with full military honors to follow at Wood Memorial Park in Duncan.
