GALLERY: Greer Honors Fallen War Hero
The body of Sgt. Channing Hicks was welcomed back to his native Greer after being killed in action in Afghanistan.
Greer showed Sgt. Channing Hicks just how much it appreciated his sacrifice Monday as thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Greer to welcome Hicks' body back to his native town in preparation for his burial.
Hicks, 24, was killed in action on Nov. 16 in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device and small arms fire, along with Spc. Joseph Richardson.
Hicks' body arrived at Greenville-Spartanburg Airport at round 2 p.m., and a huge motorcade procession that included hundreds of veterans on motorcycles, along with law enforcement personnel, accompanied his body the hearse carrying him made its way to Wood Mortuary.Â

Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Baptist Church, located at 1300 Locust Hill Road in Greer. Â

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Baptist Church in Greer.Â
Burial with full military honors will follow at Wood Memorial Park, located at 863 South 908 in Duncan.
