Greenville County Taxpayers Association Names New President

Seth Powell replacing Butch Taylor.

The Greenville County Taxpayers Association voted unanimously in late February to name Seth Powell as the group's new President, after Robert 'Butch' Taylor stepped down from the position.

Taylor had been an activist on behalf of taxpayers in Greenville County for decades, according to a release from the GCTA.

Taylor is particularly noted for his efforts on the movement for citizens to gain the right to vote on taxes, as well as property tax reform.

The group's new president, Seth Powell, was first introduced to local activist groups during his opposition to the Duke Energy rate increase in October of 2011. His efforts on behalf of working-class people have now led him to the head of the Greenville County Taxpayers Association.

"It is an honor to be trusted by this knowledgeable body with the responsibility to carry the group forward," Powell said of his being named President. "We will be working hard in the coming months to maintain the GCTA as an effective advocate for working-class taxpayers here in Greenville."

Under Powell's leadership, the group pledges a renewed focus on Local issues, and is pursuing a broad range of reforms at the county level.

The Greenville County Taxpayers Association holds monthly meetings on the third Thursday of the month at the Downtown Library. The next meeting is scheduled for March 21 and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
