GSP Airport Not Expected To Be Affected By Sequestration
FAA furloughs not expected to negatively affect Greenville-Spartanburg Airport.

Greenville-Spartanburg Airport in Greer is not expecting to have to reduce the number of flights out of its runways should the dreaded sequestration come through the U.S. government as feared.Â
Rosilyn Weston, spokesperson for GSP said the GSP Commission was not expecting any adverse effects from sweeping spending cuts that seem imminent.Â
"The short answer is no," Weston said. "We don't have any specific information about any effects sequestration would have on GSP."

Under the potential sequestration, the FAA would be forced to furlough employees for nearly two weeks, with as much as 10 percent of its workforce furloughed on any given day.
More than 2,000 of those employees would be air traffic controllers would be furloughed, forcing some smaller to mid-sized airports to reduce the number of incoming and outcoming flights.

But Weston said no GSP didn't expect to see any such issues.Â
"I can speak for the GSP Airport Commission in that the sequestration is not going to affect us at all," Weston said. "There was a list that came out that included some airports that could be affected, and GSP was not on the list."Â
