Gun Found At League Academy
Greenville Police Department investigating to find out who weapon belongs to.

The Greenville County School District and Greenville Police Department are trying to find out who left a handgun in a restroom at League Academy on Tuesday.Â
Oby Lyles, director of communications for the school district, confirmed that an unloaded handgun had been found by two male students in the boys' bathroom at League Academy, a middle school in the Wade Hampton area of Greenville.Â
The students notified school officials and the gun was secured and turned over to the SRO (school resource officer) with the Greenville City Police," Lyles said. "A full investigation is underway."

Parents were notified the district's automated telephone calling system, he added.Â
Johnathan Bragg, public information officer for the Greenville PD, said the gun was found at 11:30 a.m. He added that interviews had already taken place at the school, and more were likely in order to determine who the gun belonged to.Â

"There were no rumors that anything was planned as far as using the gun," Bragg said. "It was just found, and we don't know how long it was there or who put it there. We're trying to find out who it belongs to."Â
