Harmon Endorses Sullivan In District 17 Race
Roy Harmon finished third behind Mike Burns and Chris Sullivan.

Roy Harmon, who finished third last week in the GOP primary to fill the District 17 seat in the South Carolina House, endorsed Chris Sullivan on Monday.
Sullivan finished second on Jan. 22 to Mike Burns, who fell just short of the majority vote (he received 49.96 percent) needed to avoid a runoff.
“As a conservative concerned about our future and one who believes that South Carolina requires intelligent reform, I agree with Chris Sullivan’s commitment to overhaul our tax code, push education funding reform, and streamline the structure of state government,” Harmon said. “Chris will not just become another member of the ‘Good-old-boys Club’ but will fight for conservative reform. We need the expertise and energy that Chris can bring to Columbia and I encourage the voters in our district to make him our next Representative.”

Burns, a businessman from Travelers Rest, will face Sullivan in a Feb. 5 run-off. No Democrats have filed for the special election, which will be held in March. The District 17 seat became open when Tom Corbin vacated the seat after he was elected to take over the seat held by Phil Shoopman, who announced he would not run for re-election.
Sullivan readily accepted Harmon’s endorsement.
“Roy worked very hard and ran a positive, issues-oriented campaign. I am honored that he has agreed to support me in the run-off and I am grateful for his willingness to fight for the conservative Republican agenda,” Sullivan said.
