Law Enforcement Taking Part In Olympic Torch Run

Upstate agencies will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics.

Law Enforcement agencies from across the Upstate will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics as part of the opening ceremonies of the South Carolina Special Olympics Fall Games held at the TD Convention Center. 

Personnel from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville Police Department and South Carolina Transport Police will embark on a 3-mile run from the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to the TD Convention Center Friday at 7 p.m. 

The group of runners will carry a lit torch from the LEC traveling east on Laurens Road and north on Highway 291 for their final approach to pass the torch off to a group of athletes once at the convention center in preparation for the lighting of the “Flame of Hope.”

"This is the second opportunity this year that law enforcement has assisted in this endeavor and we consider it an honor and privilege to participate," according to a joint release from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office and Greenville Police Department. "All media and members of our community are encouraged to attend in the hope that your lives will be touched by this event and these wonderful athletes."
