North Greenville Coach Will Speak at FCA Banquet

Area football coaches from Blue Ridge, Riverside, Eastside, Greer and Wade Hampton also will speak.

Seats are available for Thursday's Northeast Greenville Fellowship of Christian Athlete Banquet featuring North Greenville University's Jeff Farrington.

The dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. at The Cannon Centre, 204 Cannon St., Greer.

Travis Dix an organizer for the event said the event will help raise awareness and money to bring a full-time FCA staff person to the northeast area of Greenville County.

Dix said it his hope that staff member solely dedicated to the area would be able to focus more on ministry in the Blue Ridge, Eastside, Greer, Riverside and Wade Hampton communities.

The dinner is open to anyone, Dix said.

Farrington, a former Greer High standout, was named the head coach at North Greenville University in February. Before joining the staff at NGU, Farrington served as the defensive coordinator for the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. Farrington also spent a year at Mercer University in Georgia under Bobby Lamb helping to initiate the Bears’ Division I FCS program which begins play in the fall of 2013.

Farrington also has served as a defensive assistant coach for Lamb at Furman from 2002-2010, and was the Paladins’ defensive coordinator in 2010. Under Farrington's leadership, the team was highly regarded statistically in the Southern Conference, and the Paladins reached the NCAA Division I FCS playoffs four times (2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006) and advanced to the FCS national semi-finals in 2005.

Farrington is a graduate of The Citadel.
