Patch Wishes You A Happy Festivus
Festivus, a humorous parody holiday protesting the commercialism of the Christmas season, initially gained popularity in the 1990's from an episode of Seinfeld.
"I got a lot of problems with you people!"
Well, not really, Patch readers - we love you, and wish you a happy holidays. But if you're a Seinfeld fan, or just an attentive student of popular culture, you're familiar with the line above, and with "Festivus."Â
Festivus, initially described by Seinfeld writer Dan O'Keefe, was popularized in 1997 by the hit sitcom. The humorous secular holiday held on Dec. 23, which was born of dissatisfaction of the growing commercialism and consumerism of the holiday season, is widely known for its fun quirks.Â

For instance, instead of a Christmas tree, the Constanza family in the sitcom erect a bare aluminum pole (after all, the show states, tinsel is distracting).Â
The next tradition is the "Festivus Dinner," in which the ritual "Airing of Grievances" is performed, where attendees let each other know all the ways in which they've disappointed each other over the past year.Â

Of course, no Festivus is complete without the performance of "Feats Of Strength," specifically the pinning of the head of household. Festivus will continue until that task in completed.Â
So, are you familiar with Festivus? Do you celebrate it? Have any grievances you'd like to air?Â
