Coroner's Office IDs Mauldin Man Killed in Saturday Crash

A 27-year-old Fountain Inn man has been charged with two counts of felony DUI after driving his car head on into another vehicle Saturday night.

Update: The Mauldin man killed in Saturday night's wreck has been identified by the Greenville County Coroner's Office as Spenser Garrett Smith, 21, of 210 Parsons St. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-car wreck on S.C. 296, according to Kent Dill of the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. Smith died as a result of multiple trauma.

Original post: An unidentified person from Mauldin was killed and a 23-year-old Greer woman was seriously injured Saturday night when a drunk driver slammed into their car on S.C. 296, the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed. 

The wreck happened at roughly 7:30 p.m. Saturday on 296, some three miles north of Woodruff Road. Troopers say 27-year-old Russell Corey Fuller of Fountain Inn was driving his 2002 Lincoln Town Car when he unsuccessfully attempted to pass another vehicle, hitting a 1992 Toyota head on.

The driver of that vehicle, 23-year-old Stephanie Lynn Brown, of Greer, was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital. The passenger of that car, from Mauldin, died at the scene. 

Fuller has been charged with felony DUI resulting in death and felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury. Neither Brown nor her passenger were wearing a seatbelt.
