Senator Scott Addresses Criminal Justice Academy Graduates

Scott spoke of his respect for law enforcement, the event carried a personal resonance for him, as John Brian Moniz, the son of Scott's mentor, was one of the graduates.

Sen. Tim Scott was the featured speaker on Friday at graduation exercises for the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Law Enforcement Session 602.

While Scott spoke of his respect for law enforcement, the event carried a personal resonance for him, as John Brian Moniz was one of the graduates. Moniz is the son of John Moniz of Charleston, who Scott has often credited as the mentor that helped put him on the straight and narrow.

Scott told the graduates he considers law enforcement the "special sauce" that holds society together. He noted that they, not athletes or entertainers, are the true heroes in America.

But Scott also cautioned the graduates not to take their responsibilities lightly and to be mindful of the scrutiny they are under.

Graduating from the Upstate area:

  • Samir Sisic of Spartanburg Public Safety, who also received the JP Strom Award.
  • Melissa B. Arcuri of Greenville County Sheriff's Office
  • Cody R. Garrett of Spartanburg Public Safety Department
