Sheriff's Office Tight-Lipped On Investigation Into Child's Death

Greenville County Sheriff's Office still investigating death of Chandler Shaver.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office isn't commenting on whether or not charges are possible against the mother of a 2-year-old child who died inside a Landrum mobile home after a chest of drawers fell on top of him.

Mike Hildebrand of the GCSO said he couldn't comment on whether or not charges were possible, as the investigation into the death of Chandler Shaver was still under investigation.

Shaver and his 4-year-old sister were playing unsupervized late Tuesday night when a chest of drawers fell on top of both children. Emergency personnel were called to the scene at roughly 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, and by 12:28 a.m. Wednesday, the 2-two-year-old child had died due to compression aspyxiation (suffocation from the weight of the furniture on top of him), according to the coroner's office.

The child's sister was treated for injuries, she was turned over to DSS due to the living conditions inside the home, though the GCSO would not elaborate on the details of those conditions.
