Smallknot Comes Through Again In Upstate

After having its listenership take a hit when a hacker devastated its web site, a local radio show now has the funds to rebuild its reputation via social media and online presence thanks to Smallknot.

Eric Wood, co-host, said Smallknot helped the show reach and exceed its goal of $1,500 for the purpose of finishing the rebuild of the web site, increasing its web traffic and expanding the show's online presence through multiple platforms, from Facebook to Twitter to Youtube. 

Smallknot is crowd funding platform geared at providing micro-financing for small businesses, was founded by Jay Lee and Ben Rossen and until this point has focused mainly on local campaigns in New York. The business model relies on everyday people, not banks or wealthy investors, to provide funding. "Another Voice," campaign represented the second time the New York-based company ventured into South Carolina. It had previously succeeded in raising money for Cake Notice in Taylors. 

"We were able to not only meet our goal of $1,500, but were able to collect an additional $200," Wood said. "On the last show prior to the end of the campaign, we announced that we would split any donations above the goal 50/50 with Pendleton Place Child Shelter, so we have sent a check for $100 to Pendleton Place. For businesses who donated, we provided ad spots and we were surprised by the generosity of a couple of the businessmen who decided to donate the ad spots to local charities, like Pendleton Place and Strides Tutoring."

The show has also begun to search for a local person or business to help them increase their online exposure. The web site rebuild has already begun. 

"This campaign was truly a success.  I am so impressed with Smallknot.  I refer to what they do as networking on steroids," Wood said. "The people involved work so tirelessly with us and helped us make connections for the future.  We are now working with them as one of the venues they can use to promote their crowd funding."
