4th District Congressional Candidate Jeff Sumerel Signs 'Just Representation' Pledge

A third party candidate for the 4th Congressional Seat in the U.S. House of Representatives pledged Saturday to not seek campaign financial contributions, among other promises.

Jeff Sumerel signed a pledge Saturday at Cleveland Park to justly represent the constituents of the 4th Congressional District in the event he were elected.

Sumerel signed a public promise of just representation that stipulates that he will accept no financial contributions, express no opinion, hold only one-term and implement a secure online voting system that will allow constituents of the 4th District to directly submit their vote on every act of congress, with the majority dictating how Sumerel would vote.

"This is a gesture and demonstration that you can't go back on a promise," Sumerel said before signing Saturday.

Sumerel added he hoped his candidacy would "reinvigorate trust" in the electorate.

He picked witnesses who held "trustworthy" professions to sign the pledge to hold him accountable, as veteran and retired teacher David Dolge and nurse Sally Reid signed the document.
