Video: Customers Saying Goodbye To The Clock

Customers will miss the food, friendships of the Greenville landmark.

People like Myles Washington will miss the consistent service and low prices The Clock on Wade Hampton Boulevard has to offer.

Others, like Kelly Mueller, are mourning the upcoming March 31 closing of the burger restaurant for far deeper reasons. Having grown up coming to The Clock when it was a prominent hangout for kids attending Wade Hampton High School and other schools in the area, Mueller will remember the friendships forged over sweet tea and chili dogs.

The Clock, which has been open for going on 60 years, will shut its doors because of an abrupt spike in the rental price for the property at the intersection of Wade Hampton Boulevard and Pleasantburg Drive. The prohibitively high price forced owners to close, though there is still talk of re-opening the business elsewhere.
