Video: Eastside Stars Hungry For Showdown With Hartsville

Keil Sherman, Davaris McGowens says they want to treat state title tilt against Hartsville like any other game.

Junior shooting guard Keil Sherman rolled his eyes during an interview this week as he was asked - likely not for the first time - about the athleticism of Hartsville's roster, especially star point guard Jaylen Shaw.

"I mean, I hear about them, but I'm pretty sure they hear about me too," Sherman said.

Meanwhile, senior forward Luke Jones let out a frustrated scream during practice Tuesday after losing control of the ball during a scrimmage scenario. The Eagles, ranked No. 1 in the state at the AAA level, may just be getting slightly tired of the hype surrounding the defending state champs, who have lost only one game all year long.

There are few smiles and little joking inside the Eastside gym in Taylors this week as an air of intensity hovers around every practice period. The team is "hungry," Senior Forward Davaris McGowens said.

Eastside plays Hartsville at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Colonial Center in Columbia for a shot at the school's first ever state title.
